Sabomnim's Philosophy

                                                 " certified instructors"

What  makes a succesful Martial Arts instructor?  Just because someone has obtained some sort of degree in anything does not make them a teacher. To be a successful Martial Arts teacher you must be able and competant in wearing many hats. Hats such as councelor, teacher, business person, marketing specialist along with qualified and certified black belt. just to name a few, because all of these things are hugely important to the success of the instructor in producing and maintaning a quality Martial Arts school, that produces quality students and black belts.

Today any person whether reading a book or taking a few lessons in someones garage can become a "Karate Instructor". You can actually have no background and be a criminal and "WA LA "hang a shingle and your an instant qualified karate Instructor. I feel bad for our Art for our industry and for all the possible good martial arts students that were turned off by some so called Karate Instructor because he or she obtained a black belt from who knows where and believes they have the right to call themselves teachers.

When you research Martial Arts instruction, visit the school. See if the person has a teaching certificate from the organization that awarded their black belt and then check to see how long they trained and if their instructor was also a qualified and certified instructor. It is not a small thing to go for Martial Arts instruction. You are talking about teaching, values, respect, honor, and strength just to mention a few, to children and adults. These qualities cannot be taught by just anyone. Remember anyone under todays laws can say they are a ligitimate Martial Arts instructor and they could have just become one yesterday. Would you put yourself or your chhildren's lives in the hand of just anyone? Im sure you would'nt

Do your home work especially when it comes to your children or your family.

~ Mixed Martial Arts ~

It has come to my attention that there are many Martial Arts schools professing to teach mixed martial arts. I find that quite strange due to the fact that every martial art is derived from several different disciplines. So one would then think that the correct term for these schools would be mixed, mixed matial arts. There are virtually no pure diciplines. All styles are and have been developed from influences of many different styles and times through out history.

When many of the Masters of the past developed a style they studied different styles for many years until they reached a high level of proficiency at all of them and then took from each style to create a new style of Martial Art. Then they named the style Tang Soo Do, Tae Kwon Do, Hap Ki Do, Kung Fu, Jeet Kun Do etc. You cannot expect to go from school to school, study a little bit of this and a little of that, learn some from books and videos and then set out to teach what you might call a "mixed martial art".

This is a very good sign that the school owner has no strong foundation in any style and has not reached a level of proficiency with any legitimate style so takes what he has accumulated here and there and calls it "mixed martial art".

Even Bruce Lee studied Martial Arts his entire life. He mastered 13 and from those styles that he mastered, he developed a style he named Jeet Kun Do. He didn't however call it "mixed martial arts."

If I studied new math from a math professor I would expect him to have some foundation and at least earned a degree in basic mathematics first before I would put my confidence into his being able to teach me anything.but that just my opinion.

Martial Art literally means to "stop conflict" however mixed Martial arts schools are teaching cage fighting or shoot fighting which is sport and not intended to teach inner strentgh, humility and self-defense. True Martial Art is not a sport and should not be considered one.

There is nothing wrong with fighting sports but lets call it like it is and not Martial Art.
